In 1939 our first developed city park was simply called "Sweet Home City Park." The park boasted many amenities, including swings, teeters, chinning bars, hobby horses, stoves, small tables, and one large table, which enabled 125 to be seated at one time. The furniture and play equipment were rustic, constructed of hewn logs and poles.

Northside Park borders the South Santiam River, with a large grassy area, picnic tables, restrooms, BBQ grill, drinking fountain, play equipment including swings, tennis court, horseshoe pits, basketball court and an indoor racquetball facility.
