Building Program
Mission
We take pride in our service and guidance in the development of our community.
The City of Sweet Home Building Inspection Program is responsible for ensuring public safety through the enforcement of federal, state, and local codes governing construction. Our staff reviews plans, issues permits, and performs inspections to ensure Code compliance related to aspects of fire, life, safety, structural integrity, handicap accessibility, plumbing, and heating and air conditioning systems.
We recognize that safe buildings are an integral part of maintaining a safe and economically stable community. This website is intended to promote communication and make our services easier to access. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
Improvements that DO require a permit (not a complete list)
- Structural changes to the foundation, walls, roof or supporting elements of your home, including adding new rooms and decks.
- Electrical or plumbing changes, including moving outlets, adding new wiring or hard-wired fixtures, and moving or adding new plumbing.
- Installing new windows and/or doors, with new cuts in the side of your home.
- Installing a new heating and air conditioning system (HVAC) or water heater.
- Room or square-footage additions of any kind.
- Garage conversion or guest home.
