Notice of Prospective Initiative Petition and Ballot Title

NOTICE is hereby given that a prospective initiative petition was filed with the Sweet Home City Recorder (City Manager Pro Tem) on February 4, 2025. After determining that the prospective petition complies with constitutional requirements, the City Attorney prepared and delivered a ballot title to the City Recorder on February 5, 2025, a portion of which reads: Caption: Charter amendment for direct election of the Mayor by voters. Question: Should the Sweet Home Charter be changed so that the Mayor is elected by voters, not by the City Council? No later than 5 PM on February 14, 2025, any elector may petition the Linn County Circuit Court requesting a different ballot title and stating why the ballot title prepared by the City Attorney is unsatisfactory. A copy of the full ballot title is available at Sweet Home City Hall, 3225 Main Street, Sweet Home, OR 97386 and attached with this notification, as well as the proposed language submitted by the Chief Petitioner.
