Senator Wyden Field Representatives Visit Sweet Home
SENATOR WYDEN FIELD REPRESENTATIVES VISIT SWEET HOME
Senator Wants to Help Rural Community
SWEET HOME, OR. – Field Representatives from US Senator Ron Wyden’s Eugene office met with City of Sweet Home staff on Thursday afternoon. The purpose of the visit was to get an understanding of current and future issues facing the rural community.
City Manager Ray Towry, Public Works Director Greg Springman, Community and Economic Development Director Jerry Sorte and Staff Engineer Joe Graybill met with Senator Wyden’s Field Representative Juine Chada and intern Breanna Irish for about two hours.
“Senator Wyden has a history of reaching out to rural communities to support them,” says Towry. “He works very hard to stay in tune with his constituency.” Chada, Irish and city staff toured the old Morse Brothers property and the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
City staff shared the vision for the Old Morse Brothers property as an economic engine and anchor point for future development of the surrounding areas while the group was walking along the ponds on the property. People have spent a lot of money and time to try and develop what is already there, “…it’s a beautiful area with a lot of potential.” said Chada.
City staff then explained the issues related to the aging Waste Water Treatment Plant, DEQ permit violations, the need to increase the plant’s capacity to allow for economic growth and details regarding the City’s four phase, $40 plus million-dollar upgrade plans.
Chada and Irish will return to their office and update the Senator. “I’m confident the Senator will support us however he can,” said Towry.
