City of Sweet Home Downtown Median Tree Project - 3
SWEET HOME, Ore. January 30, 2020 — During the January 15th, 2020 meeting of the City of Sweet Home Park & Tree Committee voted to remove the remaining downtown median trees due to infrastructure damage. The work will continue on Monday, February 3rd, 2020.
Park & Tree Committee Vice-Chair, Lena Tucker, expressed "Change is hard, and as we all know. It’s sad to see trees removed when they appear to be so healthy. Street trees have lifespans and it is important to maintain their health as well as the integrity of the infrastructure they are growing in. Healthy trees in the median put a positive face on the community, it is important they are replaced/updated before they begin to decline and cause greater damage to the infrastructure. Believe it or not, the more vibrant the trees appear, not only in the median but around the city, the more healthy and vibrant our community becomes."
The median trees/street trees replacement has been put on hold until the Downtown Master Plan is designed and approved. This spring the Beautification Committee will increase the amount of annual plants and flowers planted in the medians.
Main Street, between 12th Avenue and 18th Avenue, will be restricted to a single lane in both directions while Public Works Staff are present and working.
