Resolution No. 18 for 1999 - Officially Designating the Sweet Home Community Center to Be Known as the Jim Riggs Community Center

A RESOLUTION OFFICIALLY DESIGNATING THE SWEET HOME COMMUNITY CENTER TO BE KNOWN AS THE JIM RIGGS COMMUNITY CENTER.

WHEREAS, James Albert Riggs devoted his life to service in the Sweet Home community as a career educator and community volunteer with numerous youth and adult groups; and

WHEREAS, he gave unselfishly of his time and energy to the Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club and the Sweet Home Senior Center; and

WHEREAS, he devoted the past five years of his life to co-chair the Community Center Project to house the Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club and the Sweet Home Senior Center; and

WHEREAS, he was a major fundraiser in bringing the Sweet Home Community Center to fruition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in its official capacity the City of Sweet Home acted to designate the Community Center, now under construction, to be officially known from this day forth as the JIM RIGGS COMMUNITY CENTER, in honor of Jim Riggs' long-standing commitment and service to the people of Sweet Home and the Community Center Project, and that the words JIM RIGGS COMMUNITY CENTER be forever attached to this facility in honor of the late James Albert Riggs.

PASSED by the Council and approved by the Mayor dated this 26th day of October, 1999.
