A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE CITY OF SWEET HOME'S DECISION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR SITING OF A WOMEN'S CORRECTIONAL FACILITY AND INTAKE CENTER.

WHEREAS, the City Council of Sweet Home has been contacted by the Senate Special Siting Committee requesting a resolution of interest and site identification for a Women's Correctional Facility and Intake Center to potentially be located in Sweet Home; and

WHEREAS, the City council in order to determine the interest for this facility within the community held a Public Hearing on September 8, 1998 and heard significant public comment both in favor of and opposition to the facility; and

WHEREAS, the City of sweet Home has a significant need for economic recovery from the decline of the Timber Industry and the resultant loss of many family wage jobs over the past few years; and

WHEREAS, based on the information provided by the Department of Corrections and derived from communication with other communities that have correctional facilities, the siting of a correctional facility could significantly add to and improve the economy of the City of Sweet Home.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council, as the deemed elected representatives of the citizens of Sweet Home, that they are interested in being considered further for siting the above referenced facility in Sweet Home at this time. However, at this point the City has not had adequate time to fully assess the various sites potentially available for compliance with the criteria established by the Senate Special Siting Committee. Should the City be considered further, additional site identification efforts will be made in cooperation with the local citizens, property owners and the Siting Committee.

PASSED by the City Council and approved by the Mayor this 10th day of September 1998.
