A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A REDUCTION IN THE 2001-2002 AND 2002-2003 POLICE/FIRE OPERATING LEVY.

WHEREAS, voters in the Sweet Home area have dissolved the Sweet Home Ambulance District and Sweet Home Rural Fire District and approved the formation of a new Fire and Ambulance District in the November 2000 General Election; and WHEREAS, the formation of the new Fire and Ambulance District approves a tax rate of $1.50 per $1000 of assessed value to be paid by property owners within the newly formed District; and

WHEREAS, the levying of this new tax rate would duplicate a portion of the Police/Fire Operating taxes already being levied by the City of Sweet Home to fund Fire services; and

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to avoid any double taxation on property owners within the City of Sweet Home.

NOW, THEREFORE, the City of Sweet Home hereby resolves:

That City Council directs the budget officer, when preparing the 2001-2002 budget to balance and the City's certification to the assessor under ORS 310.060, to reduce the Police/Fire Operating Levy in the amount of $153,662.

The City Council further directs the budget officer, when preparing the 2002-2003 budget to balance and the city's certification to the assessor under ORS 310.060, to reduce the Police/Fire Operating Levy in the amount of $158,272.

The City Council recommends that the budget committee approve these lower Police/Fire Operating Levy tax limits.

PASSED by the City Council and approved by the Mayor this 14th day of November, 2000.
