Ordinance/Resolution Status:
Adopted
Adopted Date:
Tuesday, March 28, 2000
Details
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF MEASURE 77 TO ELIMINATE AN UNFAIR TAX TREATMENT MISTAKENLY IMPOSED BY MEASURE 50 IN 1997 TO THE TAXING DISTRICT OF THE CITY OF SWEET HOME.
WHEREAS, in other areas of the state, property taxes on residential property fell by an average of 8% between 1996-97 and 1997-98, but taxpayers in the City of Sweet Home saw an average increase in their residential property taxes of 1.4%; and
WHEREAS, in the past the City of Sweet Home voters have renewed temporary levies indicating their support for stable funding for essential services; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sweet Home had increased levy amounts approved by voters in 1997, which resulted in their temporary levies not being included in their permanent rate calculation; and
WHEREAS, Measure 77 will correct a mistake which caused property taxes to increase instead of decrease in the City of Sweet Home after the implementation of Measure 50; and
WHEREAS, the 1999 Legislature unanimously supported this legislation and referral so all Oregonians could experience property tax relief from Measure 50; and
NOW, THEREFORE, the City of Sweet Home does resolve to support Measure 77.
PASSED by the Council and approved by the President Pro Tern this 28th day of March 2000.
