Sweet Home's Focus on Connection to Resources

SWEET HOME, Ore. November 19, 2020 — The City of Sweet Home has adapted the way we provide essential services to lower the risk of exposure to COVID-19. We all have varying opinions of this illness and how people in authority have responded to the pandemic. However, the State of Oregon has set standards based on positive test results. If we do not lower them, our kids do not go back to school and business owners will continue to live in a constant state of uncertainty.

We need to do our part to get positive case numbers down to get our kids back in school and businesses thriving. The State of Oregon's precautions have many unintended consequences. Our social services have seen an increase in mental health calls, domestic violence, and suicides. Our public safety dispatchers and police officers need to focus their energy on connecting our neighbors in need with resources to cope.

Our patrols will focus on stopping those driving under the influence of intoxicants or other safety matters. If our dispatchers and officers need to take their attention away from those issues to other matters, they will focus on education. We trust our community to do what is best for our families and friends.

We hope everyone in Sweet Home has a safe and happy holiday season.
