Sweet Home Welcomes New Library Director
SWEET HOME, Ore. August 11, 2021 — Today we are excited to welcome our new Library Services Director, Megan Dazey.
Director Dazey feels she is completing a journey by becoming Sweet Home's newest Library Director. Her mother, Kathy Blake, graduated from Sweet Home High School and dreamt of returning as a librarian. Megan grew up on stories of Sweet Home's natural beauty and the library in the basement of the old City Hall.
Volunteering since pre-school with the Friends of the Library book sales to being a professional librarian, libraries have always been central to Megan's life. She is excited to start her job as Library Director and create a new library facility for Sweet Home.
Megan was born and raised in North Bend. She attended Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, received her BS at the University of Oregon, and her Masters of Library Science from North Texas.
Director Dazey has held library positions at Oregon State University, University of Oregon, University of Montana, and the last 10 years as Library Services Manager at City of Puyallup, WA.
Her most memorable job was with the OSU Veterinary Library. The university housed the library's storage in a barn, and duties included climbing a ladder to a former hayloft to retrieve books. Megan prefers working with human library users.
While in Puyallup, she implemented an RFID inventory and security system, a library phone app, and a new library catalog, all for better patron access to library materials. She served as Acting Director during COVID-19 and oversaw the creation of curbside services and the library's reopening to customers.
She has worked on programs serving all ages of library users, including a Halloween costume swap, virtual reality, a mini-comic convention, and a community book festival.
Director Dazey is looking forward to once again being part of a small, tight-knit community. She is passionate about providing access to all of the knowledge available in a library collection, online and in-person, for all library customers. The library has something for everybody and is an asset to the community.
Away from work, Megan enjoys time with her two rescue cats, reading biographies and books about World War II, and visiting Disneyland.
Please join us at the Sweet Home Public Library for a Welcome Open House in Director Megan Dazey's honor on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm.
