Surrey Lane Homicide Suspect Arrested

On 05/24/19 at approximately 2:32 a.m., the Sweet Home Police Department received a report that two subjects had been shot on the 500 block of Surrey Lane, Sweet Home, Linn County, Oregon.

Sweet Home Police Officers and Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and located two male victims on the property. One male subject was pronounced dead at the scene and the other male was transported to the hospital.

The Linn County Major Crimes team which consists of members of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Sweet Home Police Department, the Oregon State Police, the Lebanon Police Department, the Albany Police Department and the Linn County District Attorney’s Office, responded to assist with the investigation.

The male pronounced dead at the scene was identified as Corey A. Burdick, 43 YOA, from Sweet Home.

Ervin Larry Smith, 65 YOA, from Sweet Home, was also the victim of a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital.

Based upon the investigation there is no information indicating an ongoing threat to the public.

The incident occurred in and around a travel trailer occupied by Ervin Smith on the property of 541 Surrey Lane in Sweet Home, Oregon. The Oregon State Police Crime Lab responded and assisted with the processing of the evidence at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified Page Lee Butterfield, 25 YOA, as the suspect. It was also reported to the Albany Police Department that Page Butterfield had stolen a 2008 Red Ford Edge from an acquaintance in Albany.

On 05/26/19 at approximately 5:45 p.m., Page Butterfield was arrested by members of the Oregon State Police in the area of Sisters, Oregon. Butterfield fled on foot and was eventually taken into custody pursuant to the homicide investigation.

At this time, Page Butterfield has been lodged at the Linn County Jail for the charges of Murder, Attempted Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle.
