SWEET HOME, Ore. August 4, 2020  — On Monday, August 3, at 8:24 p.m. the Sweet Home Police Department arrested Brian Neal Clement, 49, of Milwaukie on probable cause for three counts of second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, possession of a burglary tool, and first-degree theft. Clement was lodged at Linn County Jail.

At 3:31 p.m., police responded to a reported burglary at A Squared Storage located at 1294 44th Avenue. Through the efforts of the storage operator and the surveillance footage, police officers were able to identify a suspect quickly, Police Chief Jeff Lynn stated. While en route to the suspect's reported location, a police officer noticed the pickup reportedly used during the burglary.

Lynn said the officer initiated a traffic stop, noting that the pickup was not displaying any license plates. Inside the truck, the officer spotted a compound bow matching the description of a bow reported stolen from the storage unit and subsequently arrested Clement.

"This is a great example of how the public and law enforcement can work together to solve crimes," Lynn shared. "The person reporting the crime provided a great deal of key information and detail that helped our officers identify and locate a suspect, leading to an arrest within hours of the report."

This case was the first contact between Sweet Home police and Clement.

The Sweet Home police seek help in locating some of the property taken from the storage unit. The items reported stolen in the burglary were a compound bow, a range finder, ammunition, a Cochran knife, blue jeans, a duffel bag, multiple fishing rods, and reels. The stolen belongings have an estimated value of more than $5,500.

The investigation is continuing. The Sweet Home Police Department is requesting that anyone with information on the location of the stolen items contact Officer Sasha McDonald at (541) 367-5181.
