Sweet Home Police Department Investigates Suspicious Item
SWEET HOME, Ore. - On 09/16/2019 at approximately 9:02 AM, the Sweet Home Police Department received a report of a suspicious item within the 800 Block of 5th Avenue in Sweet Home, Oregon. The report was initiated by a citizen who was in the area and observed the object.
Following the initial assessment sections of 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue were closed as a precautionary measure. The department informed the Sweet Home School District of the investigation and advised them to operate as normal.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was contacted, and they responded. Their technicians safely removed the item. The object appeared to have been an illegal firework placed in a plastic container.
The roads were closed for approximately 1 hour.
The Sweet Home Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Sgt. Jason Ogden at 541-367-5181.
