Sweet Home Police Investigate High Speed Fatal Crash
SWEET HOME, Ore. April 17, 2020 — On Thursday, April 16, 2020, at approximately 7:53 pm, the Sweet Home Police Department were dispatched to a traffic collision near the intersection of Main Street and Pleasant Valley Road in Sweet Home.
Sweet Home Police Officers and Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District Medics responded to the location. Upon arrival, officers located three vehicles involved in the incident. The driver of one of the three vehicles was deceased on our arrival. The deceased operator identified as Sherry Wheeler, age 48, of Salem, Oregon.
The Multi-Agency Investigative Team (MAIT) assisted the Sweet Home Police Department. This team consists of members of the Albany Police Department, the Lebanon Police Department, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon State Police. The investigation revealed the vehicle driven by Wheeler had been traveling east on Main Street at a high rate of speed as it entered the City limits. Evidence indicates that the vehicle collided with a vehicle in the intersection of Main Street and 1st Avenue. The vehicle then collided with a second vehicle in the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road. It came to a rest in front of 250 Main Street.
Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District personnel checked the operators of the other two vehicles who chose not to be transported to the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone having knowledge related to this incident is asked to contact Sweet Home Police Detective Keenan Martin at 541-367-5181.
